LEI At Work

The Lions Eye Institute is more than just a handsome, modern building with the Lions insignia. It is more than its sophisticated equipment, its pediatric and adult patient examination rooms, its surgical areas and its welcoming environment. It is a place which epitomizes the best virtues of Lions in our region–a place of people helping people.

The specialists at the LEI work with local eye doctors throughout our region to provide care for their most complex and challenging cases. Each year, the LEI’s ophthalmologists treat more than 5,000 children and 30,000 adults, regardless of their ability to pay. To date, over a half million patients have been treated.

While some of the care provided is for normal sight needs. The real strength of the LEI-and one of the features that differentiates it from community ophthalmology practices-is its competencies in the diagnosis and treatment of major eye trauma, severe infectious diseases of the eye, children’s eye disorders and diseases, degenerative retinal disease, ocular problems caused b y diabetes and refractory glaucoma.
